Young women race to make a difference
22 young women from across Macclesfield and Congleton worked with youth workers from Connexions - Cheshire & Warrington Limited on a fundraising mission that saw them all run the Race for Life in Tatton Park on June 20th. The girls in both areas had separately expressed an interest in fundraising and they approached youth workers to help them. The groups were introduced and worked together to plan and develop the Race for Life project.
Friendships were formed and in the lead up to the race, work on awareness issues surrounding cancer was done with the groups. All the girls trained hard for the event and some of the youth workers ran with them. Many ran with cards on their t-shirts dedicating their run to someone they knew who had suffered from Cancer.
Mark Robinson, youth worker at Connexions said: “the event was enjoyed by all and it was a fabulous sunny day which raised essential money for cancer charities as well as raising young women’s awareness on such issues, they should all be very proud of themselves.”
The whole group will be presented with certificates in recognition of their achievements at a celebration event and meal on Friday 16th July at the Pavilion @ Connexions in South Park Macclesfield. It is hoped that the group will continue to work together in the future.
