Personal Advisers
Connexions Personal Advisers are trained to nationally recognised qualifications and work in schools, colleges, in the community, in our high street Connexions Centres and with young people in work based learning. They are one point of contact for young people and can draw on further specialist support from a range of partners including voluntary organisations to provide help on issues including:
- Overcoming barriers that might stop young people succeeding in life
- Making career decisions and understanding young people’s options after school or college
- Providing and understanding careers and labour market information
- Finding and applying for jobs or training and supporting young people in work
- Lifestyle choices and personal issues
- Supporting young people gain accreditation towards such as ASDAN, an approved awarding body offering programmes and qualifications to develop key skills and life skills and the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Scheme
Every young person will be able to see a Connexions Personal Adviser, either in one to one interviews, group activities or workshops, with more support for those in need including up to the age of 25 for those with learning difficulties and disabilities. Personal Advisers also offer support to careers coordinators and staff in schools and colleges, they attend parents/carers evenings, organise careers events and visit local employers for up to date information on opportunities in the area.
Youth Workers
Youth Workers are trained to meet national professional occupational standards and hold nationally recognised qualifications. Youth Work helps young people learn about themselves, others and society, through informal educational activities which combine challenge, learning and enjoyment.Youth Workers seek to promote young people’s personal and social development and enable them to have a voice, an influence and a place in their community and society as a whole.
Our purpose is to ensure equality of opportunity for all young people to fulfil their potential and support them in their transition to adulthood.
Youth Work takes place in a variety of settings including youth centres, schools, the Hub@Connexions, outreach and detached youth work which is primarily street based.
