Investor in Careers

Schools & Colleges

Investor in Careers is a quality standard  used for the management of careers education within secondary schools, FE colleges and training providers.
It can help:

  • OFSTED inspection
  • Achieve requirements for a quality CEG programme
  • Link careers education and guidance with other areas of the curriculum
  • Promote inclusiveness

The Award was developed by Connexions Cornwall and Devon and has been used within Connexions Cheshire & Warrington since 1997.

The new 1, 2, 3 stage approach provides a manageable approach for institutions to meet the standards.
Assessment is based on standards required by legislation or nationally produced guidelines on good practice.

In order to achieve the standards, institutions need to audit their current careers education and guidance provision and produce an action plan to meet the requirements of the three stages:

Stage One – Requires the commitment to IiC being agreed by the Governing Body and an action plan to be prepared.
Stage Two - Covers Policy for Careers, the Careers Education programme, the Work-Related Learning provision and Partnership Agreements.
Stage Three – Includes Entitlement to CEG, the monitoring of student progress, staff training, labour market information & destination information and evaluation of provision
